What many don’t realize is how powerful a Google Business Profile can be for local businesses, especially real estate agents. It’s a free tool, yet 56% of local businesses haven’t even claimed their profile, and many who have don’t keep it updated. This leaves a huge opportunity for those who use it strategically.
Some of my clients in competitive markets have reported receiving up to 68 calls a week directly from their Google Business Profile! It’s an essential part of your online presence that you can leverage without paying for ads, but it does require regular upkeep.
Here’s how you can manage it effectively.
Daily: Keep Your Profile Active with Updates
Consistency is key, and adding updates to your Google Business Profile daily is crucial for maintaining an active and optimized profile. This isn’t as time-consuming as it sounds—you can use tools like Buffer or Hootsuite to schedule updates in advance.
What should these updates look like? Treat them like social media posts. Add relevant images (I recommend using an interior shot of a home) and write a brief description using local SEO keywords.The description doesn’t need to be long—two to three sentences will do.
Be sure to avoid URLs, phone numbers, or hashtags in your post text, as Google prefers clean, straightforward descriptions.
Weekly: Post Q&A and Engage with Your Audience
One powerful yet underutilized feature of the Google Business Profile is the Questions and Answers section. Many agents wait for clients to ask questions, but here’s a tip: you can ask and answer your own FAQs! This is a great opportunity to inject more SEO keywords and answer the questions that potential clients are already searching for.
Use tools like ChatGPT or check out Google’s “People Also Ask” feature to identify popular real estate questions in your area. Post these questions and provide clear, concise answers that also highlight your expertise as a local real estate agent.
Monthly: Expand and Optimize with New Products and Services
Every month, take time to expand your profile by adding new products or services. In real estate, this could mean creating listings for homes in different neighborhoods or adding sold properties to your portfolio.
Adding products like “Homes for Sale in [Your City]” with a link to your IDX website or lead capture page is an easy way to boost your profile’s SEO value and drive more traffic to your listings.
Also, make sure to regularly request reviews. Even if your past clients haven’t used you for real estate, ask for reviews that highlight your character and work ethic.
