Why Consistency in Video Content Matters for Real Estate Agents
Video content is one of the most effective ways to engage your audience. With platforms like YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, you have the opportunity to reach clients in a more personal, impactful way.
Research shows that video content converts better than other formats, making it essential for real estate agents who want to grow their client base.
However, the key to success isn’t just creating high-quality videos – it’s doing so consistently. Many agents struggle to maintain a steady posting schedule because of the time and skill involved in filming and editing. In this article, I’ll share a workflow that makes it simple and manageable.
Setting Up Your Equipment and Batch Recording
In previous videos, I covered the basics of setting up your recording equipment, including cameras, microphones, and lighting. I’ve also shared tips on batch recording – recording multiple clips at once to save time.
If you’re not familiar with these foundational steps, I highly recommend checking them out, as they’ll make the recording process much smoother.
Batch recording allows you to capture several clips in one session, labeling and organizing them as you go. This approach makes editing faster and keeps your content organized, especially if you’re working with an editor. You can film your hook, intro, main points, and conclusion separately, making each clip easy to manage and edit.
Choosing the Right Recording Software
Many real estate agents begin by recording on their phones, which is perfectly fine for quick content. However, if you’re looking for a more streamlined workflow, using dedicated recording software can save you time and offer better quality.
1. Vimeo and Loom: Quick Cloud-Based Recording Solutions
When I first started, I used Vimeo for recording. Vimeo offers a browser extension that allows you to record screen and video content directly to the cloud. Here’s what I liked about Vimeo:
- Ease of Use: Simply click to record, and the file is uploaded to the cloud automatically.
- Organizational Tools: You can label clips immediately, making it easier to keep track of your content.
- Cloud Storage: With cloud storage, you don’t have to worry about taking up space on your computer. You can share links with your video editor for easy collaboration.
Loom is another similar option, allowing you to screen record, capture video, or combine both. These tools are ideal if you’re looking for a simple, cloud-based solution to quickly record and organize your content.
2. OBS Studio: A Free, High-Quality Recording Software
I currently use OBS Studio, a free, open-source software that offers a high degree of flexibility and customization. OBS Studio is popular among content creators and broadcasters because of its advanced features and quality.
Key Benefits of OBS Studio:
- 100% Free: OBS Studio is open-source, meaning it’s completely free and without limitations.
- Versatile Recording Options: Record in high quality, using DSLR cameras, webcams, or even screen-sharing capabilities.
- Multiple Scenes and Layouts: Set up different “scenes” with various layouts for tutorials, screen shares, or talking head videos.
- Live Streaming Capabilities: If you ever want to broadcast live, OBS Studio allows you to stream to multiple platforms simultaneously.
OBS Studio is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a more robust recording solution and are comfortable with a bit of a learning curve.
Getting Started with OBS Studio
Here’s a step-by-step guide to setting up OBS Studio for your real estate videos.
Step 1: Download and Install OBS
Download OBS Studio from the official website and install it on your computer. It’s compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux.
Step 2: Set Up Your Scenes and Sources
OBS allows you to create “scenes” that include different sources like video, audio, and display captures.
- Create a Scene: Start by creating a scene for your video content. You can add multiple scenes for different types of videos.
- Add Your Sources: In each scene, add your video sources (such as a webcam or DSLR camera), audio input (microphone), and display capture if you plan to share your screen.
- Organize Sources: Arrange and resize each source to get the layout you want. For example, you might place your video feed in the bottom corner during a screen recording.
Step 3: Adjust Recording Settings
To ensure high-quality recordings, follow these recommended settings:
- Video Resolution: Set both the canvas and output resolution to 1920 x 1080 for HD recording.
- Frame Rate: 30 FPS is sufficient for instructional videos. If you’re filming something fast-paced, consider increasing it to 60 FPS.
- Output Format: Choose “MKV” as the recording format, then enable “Auto Remux” to MP4. This setup protects your file in case of an unexpected interruption.
Step 4: Record and Save Your Clips
With OBS, you can quickly record individual clips for each part of your video. When you’re ready to start, simply hit “Start Recording,” and OBS will capture the content in your chosen scene. When you’re done, press “Stop Recording.” Your video will save automatically, and you can rename each clip to keep everything organized.
Tips for Efficient Recording and Editing
- Keep it Simple: High-quality content doesn’t require a complicated setup. Focus on clear audio, decent lighting, and delivering value.
- Label Your Clips: Name each clip as you go to keep track of your content, especially if you’re working with multiple files.
- Batch Record: Record your hook, intro, main points, and outro separately. This approach reduces editing time and makes it easier to organize content.
- Use Cloud Storage for Easy Access: If you’re using a cloud-based tool like Vimeo, share the folder directly with your video editor for a smoother workflow.
- Consider Hiring Help: If editing feels overwhelming, consider hiring a VA or editor from Fiverr or Upwork. You can find affordable options that will save you time and let you focus on producing content.
Streamline Your Recording Process and Boost Your Video Output
Creating consistent, high-quality video content doesn’t have to be overwhelming. With the right tools and workflow, you can simplify the recording process and start sharing valuable content with your audience.
Whether you choose a cloud-based tool like Vimeo or the robust OBS Studio, you’ll find that recording videos becomes faster and more efficient.
