5 New GoHighLevel Updates (and How I'm Actually Using Them for Clients)

Five new GoHighLevel updates worth using: AI Studio GitHub sync, two-step checkout, live chat widgets, the SEO and AEO tab, and internal comments in workflows.

GoHighLevel AI Studio website builder syncing with GitHub, with chat, checkout, and SEO panels around it

GoHighLevel just released five updates that are actually worth your time.

Not the "cool, I'll never touch that" kind. These are ones I'm already using to build client websites faster, capture more leads, and get pages found by Google and AI search. Here's each one, how to turn it on, and how I'm putting it to work.

Watch me walk through each update on screen:

Prefer to watch? Here’s the full breakdown.

The Quick List

  1. AI Studio + GitHub sync. Build anywhere, and your client can take their site with them.
  2. Two-step checkout in AI Studio. Capture the lead before they pay.
  3. Live chat widgets in AI Studio. A branded chat in one prompt.
  4. The SEO & AEO tab. Schema markup without the headache.
  5. Internal comments in workflows. Tag your team right inside an automation.

1. AI Studio + GitHub Sync

This is the one I'm most excited about as an agency owner.

GHL now charges for AI Studio usage, because large language models are expensive. That was a real objection: building a full website inside a client's account eats their AI usage. Even AI Studio isn't unlimited.

GitHub sync fixes that. You start the project in AI Studio, connect it to GitHub, and from GitHub you can build with whatever tool you want. For us, that's Claude Code. Others use Codex, Grok, or something else. The changes push back into GHL.

How to connect it:

  1. Open AI Studio and click into your project
  2. Go to More, then GitHub
  3. Click Add connection and pick your GitHub account (or organization)
  4. Select the repositories you want it to see

Once it's in sync, publishing in GHL pushes to GitHub, and updates made in GitHub pull back in.

How we use it: I start a page in AI Studio (just a homepage, so the file structure exists), sync it to GitHub, build the rest in Claude Code, and bring it back. The client's AI usage stays untouched.

Why this matters for SEO

This is the reason we'd stopped building some sites in GHL. AI Studio sites were React apps that loaded as JavaScript first, with the HTML coming second. A lot of AI crawlers couldn't read them. We'd moved some clients to Astro sites because of it.

Now GHL has moved to the TanStack setup, which renders on the server. That's better for SEO and better for AI search. We can keep everything in one place again.

And it answers the client objection

You know the question: "If I build my website in GHL and leave, what happens?"

Now you have an answer. The site lives in GitHub. They can take it and host it somewhere else. For my SaaS company, this makes website setup even faster than it already was.

Latest Update

At Level Up on October 26, 2026, GHL announced new AI Studio pricing.

Agency admins and agency users get AI Studio free, subject to fair use. Usage runs in rolling five-hour windows, then resets. So if you're building in client accounts, or you run your own GHL agency, you're covered as long as you're working as an agency admin or agency user.

Sub-account users don't get the free usage. They pay per use, or they get included usage on one of the new AI Employee plans: Starter at $20 a month, Growth at $50, and Unlimited at $97.

2. Two-Step Checkout in AI Studio

AI Studio already had payments. Now it has a two-step checkout, which means you capture the lead before the payment step.

That matters because people hesitate. They fill in their name and email, hit continue, then stall on the credit card. With two steps, that contact is in GHL no matter what.

How to set it up:

  1. Add your products under Payments
  2. In your AI Studio project, ask it to add a two-step checkout block
  3. Select your products and let it build

Take it one step further: we run an automation that fires if someone doesn't buy within 30 minutes to an hour. Something like, "You left something in your cart," or my favorite, "You must have gotten distracted like me." Then it sends them back to checkout.

Before this, we built checkout pages in funnels and had to make them match the website. Now it's all in one place. I'm starting to move my old funnel pages over.

3. Live Chat Widgets in AI Studio

Before, adding chat to a site meant building the web chat under Sites, copying the code, and embedding it. Now you just tell AI Studio: "Add a chat widget to the site."

It walks you through the setup:

  • Live chat or not. We picked live.
  • Who greets the visitor. For our client's fitness site, we used "Hi5 Fit Concierge."
  • Quick reply chips. Optional buttons above the first message so visitors can tap common questions.
  • Contact form. Turn it on. From a lead standpoint, you want that info before the chat starts.
  • Consent and spam protection.
  • Business hours, so the chat knows when someone's actually there.

Save, and the widget shows up in the corner. Chats are supposed to sync to Conversations, so you can monitor them from the back end.

The best part? I didn't tell it what style to use. It matched the website automatically. The old web chat made you customize the form yourself. This looks branded and custom out of the box.

That's something you can charge clients a premium for, or add to your own site so questions get answered and you close more deals.

4. The SEO & AEO Tab

My background is SEO, building websites for over 20 years, and this was one of the things that kept me away from the GHL website builder for client sites. You had to add schema yourself, and teaching clients to manage that on their own pages was hard.

Quick definitions:

  • SEO (search engine optimization): getting found on Google in traditional search results
  • AEO (answer engine optimization): getting found by AI like ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok

AI crawlers look hard at schema, which is a fancy word for label. You're labeling your site: this is the business name, this is the service, these are the frequently asked questions.

Why it matters now: Google's AI summary sits at the top of the results, and a big share of searches end with zero clicks. People ask, get the answer, and move on, or they get it right inside the AI chat. If your site isn't labeled, you're not the answer.

How to use the tab:

  1. Open the SEO & AEO tab in Websites. You'll see every published page and flags like might be outdated, no schema, unpublished, or unsaved.
  2. Open a page and go to its search options to find Schema markup.
  3. Let it scan the page content and create the schema for you, or click Add schema, switch to JSON view, and paste it in.

Not techie? If Claude helped write your copy, have Claude write the schema too. It handles all the types: organization, local business, service, FAQ, article, reviews and aggregate ratings (which link back to your Google Business Profile reviews), person, video, image, and more.

Label it right, and search engines and AI can find your information faster and want to crawl and index it.

5. Internal Comments in Workflows

People are sleeping on this one.

Before, a workflow could send an internal notification or drop a note on a contact. Now you can add an internal comment as an action inside the automation, and tag someone on your team.

How to add it:

  1. Add an action and search for comment
  2. Write the message (custom values work, so you can pull in the contact's name and info)
  3. Tag the user it's for

Where I see it getting used:

  • Something breaks, and the right person gets tagged on the contact
  • A specific form or ticket comes in that needs a human to review it
  • AI can't handle a step, so it asks a person for approval

We do a lot of custom GHL builds. Now when a specific ticket gets submitted, I can tag the assistant who helps me with builds, and the comment lives right there in the record. In a world where AI handles more of the work, this is how you hand off to a human cleanly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I connect GoHighLevel AI Studio to GitHub?

Open your AI Studio project, go to More, then GitHub, click Add connection, choose your GitHub account or organization, and select the repositories. Publishing then pushes to GitHub, and changes in GitHub sync back.

Can a client take their GoHighLevel website with them if they leave?

With GitHub sync, yes. The site files live in GitHub, so they can host it on another platform.

What does the two-step checkout in AI Studio do?

It collects the buyer's contact info on step one and the payment on step two, so you capture the lead in GoHighLevel even if they don't finish paying. Pair it with an abandoned-cart automation.

What is the difference between SEO and AEO?

SEO helps you show up in traditional Google search results. AEO helps AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok find and recommend you. Schema markup helps with both.

Can GoHighLevel create schema markup for me?

Yes. In the page's search options, the schema markup section can scan your content and create it, or you can paste in JSON schema that Claude or another AI wrote.

How do I get a 30-day GoHighLevel free trial?

Use my affiliate link instead of signing up directly. New users get 30 days instead of the standard 14, plus free access to GHL Agency OS.
